Economic Prospects

Malta’s former capital, the ancient walled city of Mdina, also known as Melita.

Despite challenges from the Covid pandemic, Malta has managed to maintain a relatively low unemployment rate, mainly because of the constant growth and policies encouraging continuous training for the labour force.

Globally, until pre-Covid times, Malta ranked sixth in inward Foreign Direct Investment and amongst the top twenty countries most likely to sustain economic growth over the medium and long term.

The fallout from the Ukrainian wall and the move towards harmonising fiscal regimes across the Euro area will likely disrupt Malta’s growth prospects. In some aspects, Malta’s competitiveness will need to be redefined to face new market realities.

Malta has traditionally proved to be economically resilient despite regional or international challenges, so the island’s prospects remain positive and promising.
